Round three: Brilliant Brechin

9th Jul 2026

The Brechin Power Pull took place on 3rd and 4th of July, and was the third round of the 2026 Mitas Agri Tires British Championship season. With three more events to go, the competition is hotting up (see here for BTPA events).

Friday night’s high-octane action saw six points classes take place, starting with the ultra-competitive Super Farm class, and concluding with the thunderous Light Modified class.

A broad field of Super Farm tractors fought a fairly tough sledge setting, with only three of the 12 tractors making the pull-off. Those were Dieselross, Chasing Dreams and Evil Donkey, with the strong-running Redemption missing out by 71cm, and settling for fourth place points.

In the pull-off, local Fendt machine Dieselross driven by Connor Ross set the distance for all to beat, with a solid 103.39m. The Welsh Ford, Evil Donkey, piloted by Leon Attenborough couldn’t get anywhere near the chequered flag, before current points leader Chasin Dreams driven by Jason Walton was on-course to threaten the top spot, before the turbocharger let go. It was enough for second place, and ensured he continued to lead the championship going into the second night’s action.

In the Limited Pro Stock class, there would be no repeat of the top two finish from Scottish tractors, as enjoyed at the previous BA Stores event. This time around, Bogged Doon lived up to its name and was unable to leave the line, while True Blue suffered damage while warming up and sadly couldn’t even hook to the sledge.

Two tractors did make the pull off, those of Ed Bateman’s Major Madness and John Pye’s Blue Donkey. Unfortunately, neither could return for the pull off, and first place was shared between the two. A strong third place and a healthy 14 point-haul was snapped up by the BTPA’s farthest travelled machine, that of the Webber family’s Bournemouth-based Hard Work.

In the 3.6t Super Sport class, just one machine took to the track, that of the Scottish John Deere, Awe Flash n Nae Cash. Despite getting out of shape at the end of the run, driver Jake Nicol was guaranteed first place, along with another 20 points towards his championship haul.

In the 4.5t Super Sport class a three-tractor field saw the IH Oh Bonnie from Lancashire shod on new 30.5 rims and tyres. Unable to find the optimum tyre pressure for the Brechin Power Pull track, Alistair Parkinson turned down his test pull distance of 83.07m to have another go at dialling the tractor in. Albeit 3m less next time around, nothing was lost and Oh Bonnie remained in third place. Wyn Thomas’ Evil Deceiver earned a full pull, with Grant Morrison close behind on the Orange Factory, at 89.56m.

In the truck class, Duncan Clitheroe’s Thirsty Turtle showed that the double victory last time out at BA Stores was no fluke, again taking first place in a two-way pull off against Gray Vipond’s Yellow Viper, though the latter was thought to have suffered a melted piston. Harry Walton’s Tweety rounded off the podium in third place.

Clitheroe’s performance was repeated on Saturday night, quenching the Turtle’s thirst for trophies with a full pull, backed up with a pull-off distance of 121.43m. Even Stephen Charles couldn’t get close on the Brutus Thunderstruck, settling for second with just 94.82m in the pull off, leaving Clitheroe with an 18-point lead at the top of the points race.

Closing the night’s high-octane action was the track-bashing, raucous Light Modifieds, which saw four machines in competition. Test puller The Knight, with its supercharged Ford V8’s, came to a stop at 94.19m, and declined the pull in search of better balance. Local tractor Gator 2 with its four Lynx helicopter turbines, finished in third spot, with the twin Chevy V8-powered Aftermath taking the class win with the only full pull, as the Knight bettered its test pull by just 60cm. Kelly Wardle, aboard new ride Kitt, took fourth with a distance of 65.42m.

Saturday saw glorious weather, ideal for pulling where eight classes hit the track for yet more BTPA championship points.

Some in the Super Farm class took to late-night spannering to ensure points were on the table, and after a change of turbo, Jason Walton resumed his winning ways on Chasin’ Dreams with an untouchable distance of 106.07m, in a six-way pull-off to lead the championship overall. Redemption was 8.27m behind and local lass Mhari Cameron finished third on Smokey 2.

Like the Super Farm teams, several Limited Pro Stock competitors took to late night spannering, with the Blue Donkey and Major Madness fighting-fit for the Saturday night show-down. The win went to the Donkey, with Pye steering the big blue beast to 105.32m in a seven-way pull-off. Ed Bateman rode the Major to 101.32m, with Jamie Humphrey a close third at 99.62m on the Blue Wicked. Ed Greaves’ Moody blue was fourth with Tom Webber chasing in fifth place, on-board the Hard Work - though clearly, Hard Work pays off, as consistent points-scoring has put Tom ahead in the championship mid-way through the 2026 season

Jake Nicol had the 3.6t Super Sport class all to himself, but there’s rumours that more tractors are set to join him, with a with a nice full pull. The heavier 4.5t Super Sport saw the same results as Friday night with Evil Deceiver adding a fifth straight win and creating a 26 point lead over Parkinson's Oh Bonnie. Orange Factory almost forced a pull off, and Oh Bonnie showed promise on its new boots.

The first of Saturday night’s extra classes - Limited Super Stock – brought just two machines to the track, and unfortunately both suffered technical issues trying to leave the start line. Stephen Charles’ Brutus Thunderstruck reached 19.96m and took the win, while Kevin Haworth’s Ultimate Deere spluttered its way to just 18.84m.

Five Pro Stocks came to the track, with local team Xtreme Green led by Kevin Carnegie missing out after an engine failure the night before during a demo run. It really is becoming a class of Dragons… A three-way pull-off saw the Thomas family’s Evil Dragon - with test pilot John Pye at the controls - lay down an unreachable 119.75m pull. Sister tractor, the Evil Dragonfire, couldn’t come back after engine damage during its full pull run, leaving the Penton family’s V8 Perkins-powered MF, driven by Simon Neame, to grab second place with 83.13m. The Shropshire-based Jones clan saw Olivia Jones on the Diesel Dragon beat brother Nathan on the newly-built Iced Dragon, though neither were able to make the pull-off.

Rounding-off the evening’s action was the much-anticipated Modified class. Two machines squared up on the track – that of father and son team Kevan and Josh Whittingham with their twin-engined V12 Griffon tractor Snoopy 3, and another V12, that of Kelly Wardle and the diesel V12 powered Kitt. Kitt made a couple of nice runs, first as test puller and to gain more track time and build experience, this was declined in favour of a second attempt. Snoopy 3 was then unleashed on an enthusiastic Scottish crowd, who got to see raw power and feel the ground shake as Josh powered the Rolls Royce engine beast to a full pull, and the top spot on the podium.
